Knee Flashcards
What are the best modalities of choice to evaluate the knee?
MRI and U/S
What is used for chronic symptoms of internal derangement?
MRI
What is used when there is tendon disease and effusions?
U/S
What are the three major knee sections?
superior to patella, inferior to patella, popliteal fossa
What are the 4 quad muscles?
rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius
What allows the quad muscles to connect to the superior aspects of the patella?
quadriceps tendon
What continues as the patellar ligament?
quad tendon
What is the pt positioning for anterior superior knee?
pt supine w knee bent, pillow under knee for support
What is the probe position for anterior superior knee in long?
marker at 12, bottom of probe touching the knee cap
What are the 3 interfaces of the anterior knee?
femur/fat pad, suprapatellar pouch, quad tendon
What is the probe position fro anterior superior knee in transverse?
marker at 9, bottom of probe touching the knee cap
What are the quad tendon images in long and trans?
- long tendon w insertion
- long tendon integrity: med/lat clip
- trans tendon near patellar insertion
- trans tedon integrity: sup/inf clip
- measure cartilage AP/height (lat/med/mid)
What attaches the bottom of the kneecap to the tibia?
patellar tendon
What tendon is prone to inflammation and rupture?
patellar
What is the normal patella thickness?
3-3.4mm
What is caused by repeated eccentric contraction of the quad when landing from a jump?
jumpers knee
What bursa causes osgood schlatters?
deep infrapatellar bursa
How many subc bursa are there in the anterior knee?
2
Which bursa causes housemaids knee?
subc bursa in anterior knee that attaches to patella
Which bursa causes vicars knee?
distal, infrapatellar bursa in anterior knee
What are the patella images in long and trans?
- long tendon w insertion
- long tendon integrity med/lat clip
- trans tendon near patellar insertion
- trans tendon integrity sup/inf clip
What is the pt position for a vascular assessment of the popliteal fossa?
frog legged
What is the pt position for a bakers cyst assessment?
prone
What is the probe position for a vascular and bakers cyst assessment in the popliteal fossa?
trans marker at 9
