Knee Flashcards
genu varum
180 or higher
excessive genu valgum
less than 170
Oblique popliteal ligament
Pulled taut in full knee extension, a position that naturally includes slight external rotation of the tibia relative to the femur
Menisci
Function as shock absorbers (increased contact area), weight distributors
Tibiofemoral osteokinematics
Flexion ~130-140 deg
Extension ~5-10 deg beyond straight
Medial Collateral Ligament
Resists valgus, resists knee extension, and resists extremes of axial rotation (especially knee external rotation)
Lateral Collateral Ligament
Resists varus, knee extension, and extremes of axial rotation (probably more ER)
ACL
Increasingly taut in extension; resists ant. tib translation, tib IR, obliquely oriented
PCL
Increasingly taut in flexion; resists post. tib translation, more vertical than ACL
Normal Q-angle for men and women
18 – 22 (Female)
15 – 18 (Male)
