Gait Flashcards
total vertical displacement during gait
5cm
total side-to-side displacement during gait
4cm
what COM minimization strategies decrease downward COM displacement
transverse pelvic rotation and sagittal ankle rotation
what COM minimization strategies decrease upward COM displacement
stance knee flexion and frontal pelvic rotation
what does frontal hip rotation do in regard to COM minimization strategy?
decrease side-to-side COM motion
Erector Spinae during gait
Prevents trunk from falling forward over hips at heel contact
Rectus abdomnis during gait
Stabilizes hip flexor activity
Hip extensors during gait
Similar role to ES @ heel contact; additional activity for propulsion
Hip flexors during gait
Tough to measure, but probably active eccentrically well before toe off through first half of swing phase
hip abductors during gait
Prevent contralateral pelvic drop in single support (eccentric)
Contralateral COM propulsion in late stance (concentric)
Also, rotate contralateral (i.e. swinging) side fwd in stance phase
hip adductors during gait
Heel contact burst -> stabilizer role, extensor role
Toe off burst -> initiate hip flexion
Internal rotators during gait
rotate contralateral (i.e. swinging) side fwd in stance phase
hip external rotators during gait
Control hip internal rotation in stance (eccentric)
knee extensors during gait
Eccentric control during weight acceptance
knee flexors during gait
Activity appears mostly directed at early stance phase hip extension and stabilization of knee extension
