- Most common are sports injuries / trauma
- Osteoarthritis (aka wear and tear, over ½ million total knee replacements are performed annually)
- Neoplasms – distal femur and proximal tibia – 11% of childhood cancers are bone cancer

List order of diagnostic imaging choices for the knee
A
- X-ray: fractures, dislocations, and articular changes
(done NWB) - CT scan: complex fractures and articular defects (good to pick up bone fragments)
- MRI: menisci, articular cartilage, and osteochondritis dissecans
- Ultrasound: tendons and trauma with a foreign body
- Bone scans: evaluation of neoplasms
