- Soft tissue pathology (tears)
- Fluid collection (cysts, bursa, synovitis, infections, inflammation)
- Evaluation of articular cartilage
- Evaluation of entrapped/inflamed nerves

List Pros and Cons of diagnostic US
A
o Pros:
- Inexpensive and portable
- Can image in the presence of orthopedic hardware
- Can easily compare to non-involved side
- Includes dynamic views
- Easily locates specific areas of pain
o Cons:
- Very dependent on the skillfulness of the operator
- Does not penetrate bone or air
- Obese patients are difficult to examine
- Time-consuming process
