Kidney diagram Flashcards
Renal sinus
Cavity within the kidney that contains calyces, pelvis of uterer and segmental vessels
Renal pelvis
Funnel shaped expansion of the superior portion of the uterer
Hilum
Depression on the medial border of the kidney. Site of the apex of the renal pelvis and passage of segmental renal vessels and renal nerves
Renal papilla
Tip of the renal pyramid that projects into the minor calyx
Uterer
Tube that conducts urine from the renal pelvis to the urinary bladder
Renal cortex
Outer portion of the kidney containing renal lobules, renal columns, renal corpuscles, and the proximal and distal convulated tubes
Renal medulla
Inner, darker, portion of the kidney that contains the renal pyramids
Renal pyramid
Conical mass of the kidney projecting into the medullary region containing part of sectreting and collecting tube
Minor calyx
Subdivision of the major calyx into which urine enters from the renal papillae
Major calyx
Primary subdivision of the renal pelvis formed by the merging of 4-5 minor calyces
Kidney lobe
Portion of the kidney consisting of the renal pyramid and associated cortical tissue
Renal columns
Cortical tissue separating renal pyramids
Fibrous capsule
Covering of kindeys outer surface and lining of renal sinus
