Kidney ❤️️ Flashcards
Blood enters the kidneys through….
Renal arteries
Blood leaved the kidneys through….
Renal veins
What is the nephron made up of
Tiny blood vessels and tiny tubes
What do capillaries in the kidney do
They supply blood to each nephron from the renal artery and return ‘treated’ blood to the renal vein
What is the glomerulus made up of
Capillaries forming a tiny knot
What happens in the glomerulus
Blood passes through and gets filter d and materials in the blood pass into the Bowmans Capsule.
Why do materials leave the blood (at the glomerulus)
Because the capillary leaving the bowman’s capsule is narrower than the one entering it
This leads to an increased blood pressure which forces things out of the blood (ultra- filtration)
Valuable water and glucose have been removed, but we want them back, so….
Glucose- this is reabsorbed at the proximial tubule by active transport
Water- this is reabsorbed at the collecting duct, by osmosis
