Keys And Scales Flashcards
Give two definitions of a key.
1: a part of a keyboard instrument which when is pressed down causes a note to sound.
2: A set or seven different notes which pull towards one of the seven known as the keynote.
What are the two sets of notes which pull to a key note?
1: The major set-for cheerful music
2: The minor set-for sorrowful music
What is a scale?
All the notes of the key in order of pitch beginning and ending with the keynote.
What are keys and scales named after?
They are named after the keynote
Technically what is a B-flat minor?
The minor set of notes which pull to a B flat
Technically what is a C major scale?
The major set of notes which pull to C in order of pitch beginning and ending in C.
Explain how the tones and semi-tones work in a scale.
Tone…Tone…Semi-tone…Tone…Tone…Semi-tone…meaning that 3-4 and 7-8 notes in the scale are semitones.
Why does the C scale only have white notes?
Because of the coincidence that the difference between a tone and semitone happens between e-f and b-c which happen to be the 3-4 and 7-8 notes in the scale..making everything equal and so it is all white notes.
Find out the sharps in a D scale.
