Key Words & General Flashcards
What is a covalent bond?
A strong chemical bond where 2 atoms share a pair of electrons.
What is an ionic bond?
A moderate chemical bond formed by the attraction between two oppositely-charged ions.
What is a hydrogen bond?
A weak chemical bond between the partially positive charge on a hydrogen atom and the partially negative charge on the oxygen atom of an adjacent molecule.
What is a glycosidic bond?
A covalent bond between a carbohydrate molecule and a hydroxyl group on another molecule, resulting from a condensation reaction.
What is a peptide bond?
A covalent bond between two amino acids, resulting from a condensation reaction.
What is a phosphodiester bond?
A covalent bond between two nucleotides, resulting from a condensation reaction.
What is a monomer?
A small repeating unit which join together to form larger molecules (polymers).
