Book of Psalms
150 pieces of poetry that were originally made to be sung in Jewish worship.
Divine Office
Collection of psalms and prayers that every priest monk and nun must say at least 4 times a day.
Pleinchant
9-13th century. Used in monasteries to sing daily prayer, uses simple unaccompanied music often sung in Latin. The official music of the roman catholic mass.
Contemporary Worship Music
Uses a wider range of modern instruments, written recently as praise and worship songs.
Mass Settings
According to church teachings, there are parts of the mass that should be sung.
Alleluia, Gospel Acclamation
“Praise to God”, a hymn of joy and triumph.
Never sung during lent because it is a time of suffering..
Sung 3 times at the Easter vigil to show Jesus’ resurrection.
Gloria
Praise to God taken from the angels word of thanks at the Incarnation.
Holy Holy (Sanctus)
Based on the version of Isaiah (6:13), it can be sung in a reflective manor, showing the peace and harmony of the heavenly court.
Mystery of Faith
Everyone proclaims that they accept that the consecration has made present the whole saving events of Christ’s life, death and resurrection.
Triune of God
Stresses the fact that there are three beings within the one God.
Trinity
Focuses on the distinctive qualities of each of the three beings - father, son and holy spirit.
Shema
Like Christians, Jews believe in one God but they don’t believe it’s 3 different things. It’s important to tell them as it tells Jews to love God completely which is their most important commandment.
Baptism of Jesus
Spirit of God shown as a dove, free to go where it wills. Spirit comes down in Jesus and stays with him, reflecting the intimate relationship between Jesus and the holy spirit.
Nicene Creed
Statement of religious beliefs written at the council of Nicea in 325AD.
Begotten not Made
The son comes from the father without lessening him.
Consubstantial
The father and the son are made from the same substance.
Spoken through the prophets
Praying, speaking in tongues and to prophesies is to do with the Holy Spirit.
Mission
Christians see it as their duty to demonstrate to the world the word of God through providing education, medical care to poorer countries.
Evangelism
Preaching the word of the gospel to lives and attitudes of others.

In order to have love there must be a lover, a person they love and the love that unites them.
“True love is: a trinity lover, beloved and the love that binds.”
This love of God is not contained within God. It pours outward into the hearts and lives of believers.

Acts of redemption and incarnation shows how the son, as love comes out from God to save humans beings.
The Holy Spirit guides believers to complete the work of redemption, word.
Apostolic Authority
When bishops are designated, the laying of the hands passes on apostolic authority, the authority of the apostles, as early leaders of the church.
Magisterial Teachings
Catholics believe that the holy spirit guides the whole church in the truth, and that truth is clearly expressed in the magisterial teachings.
Baptism
Symbolises a new stage of life and joining in with Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Total Immersion
Symbolises us joining with Jesus in the tomb after his death.
Sign of Initiation
Pledge that the person will join God in heaven after they die Christians believe that Jesus’ death and resurrection to share in Christ’s victory over the power of sin and death it also fills the person with the holy spirit to give them straight resist to evil.
Prayer
Raising our hearts and mind to God.
Traditional Prayer
Set words and have been passed through the generations.
Set words means that people don’t have to find the correct words for their feelings and their feelings can be passed on easily to God.
Spontaneous Prayer
No set words, format or timing they allow the person to express their feelings. People feel that they are guided on their prayers by the Holy Spirit.
Prayer Postures
Different postures of prayer for different occasions and times during prayer.
Kneeling
Sign of humility and shows the person is submissive and acknowledging to the will of God. It’s a position that asks for pardon and forgiveness from God.
Genuflecting
People must genuflect when they pass the tabernacle or enter the church.
Prostration
Used when people are being ordained.
Bowing
Sign of respect and praise to God.
