mothers interviewed asked who their babies showed separation pretest to.
The proportion of babies having more than one attachment figure increased from 29% to 87% when separation protest first appeared (at 18 months)
First specific attachment formed by 50% at 25-32 weeks
By 18 months- 87 had one plus attachemtn figure and 31% had 5 or more attachment figures
1/3 so 33.3% the strongest attachment figure was not the mother
CONCLUDE- attachments made to those who pay most attention- fun pplay was most important factor and caregiving such as nappy changing seemed not so important
FOX 1977
study on 1-2 year olds most spent time in communial nurseries
infants were found to be strongly attached to both the mother and the caregiver in the nursery
both provided safe base for exploration and reassurance when the infant felt insecure.

Agricultural studied
found the mother was the exclusive caregiver in just 5 of the 186 societies. Others had important caregiving roles- 405 during infancy period and 80% during early childhood
