What are disasters?
These are the sudden calamitous occurrences that cause great harm, injury, destruction, and devastation to life and property.
What are disaster risks?
These are the potential disaster losses in lives, health status, livelihoods, assets, and services
What are hazards?
These are the causes of the disasters. they are dangerous phenomenon,
substance, human activity or condition that may
cause loss of life, injury or other health impacts,
property damage, loss of livelihood and services, social
and economic disruption, or environmental damage.
What is vulnerability?
This is the state of being at risk/susceptible to hazards. These are the variables/characteristics/conditions that increase the susceptibility of people to the impact of hazards. The degree of loss to each element should a hazard of given severity occur.
What is exposure?
it is the situation of people, infrastructure, housing, and other assets within hazard prone areas. The number of people, infrastructure, housing, and other assets in an area that could be affected by a hazard.
What is coping capacity?
It is the ability of people, organizations, and systems, using available skills and resources to face and manage adverse conditions, such as hazards, emergencies, or disasters.
