Pain:
Insidious onset

Clinical Signs:

Swelling around joints margins
Joint-line tenderness
Muscle weakness/ wasting
Visible with imaging
Generalised Nodal Osteoarthritis, what is it?
This is the one occuring in the fingers
Affects the PIP and DIP joints

Generalised Nodal Osteoarthritis, what are the risk factors
Risk factors:
Peak onset in middle age
Strong genetic predisposition
Female predisposition
Generalised Nodal Osteoarthritis, what are the clinical signs
Clincial signs:
Pain in hands, particularly in the morning or while active e.g. opening jars
Goes through episodic symtoms while it is developing (1-5years)
However once it is fully developed symptoms often reside and funtionality of the hand remains good
Heberdens/ Bouchards nodes
