Deep fascia vs superficial fascia

A

Superficial is just under the skin e.g. fat

Deep is below the periosteum

What is compartment syndrome?

A

Swelling in a compartment cause pressure on deep viens and nerves causing numbness, staining and paralysis.

It is treated by an operation called a fasciotomy which essentially opens up the compartment and releives the pressure.

How do fascial boundaries impact conditions?

A

Facial connections and boundaries make indivudal pouches that a separate from eachother within the body. This means swelling in one part can often spread to the rest of the pouch and the same with bleeding.
