Kant And Globalisation Flashcards

1
Q

Why will international trade lead to a peaceful world?

A

It is in our interest to avoid conflict so that the trade can continue and countries can continue to make money with each other. International trade can be universalised

Q

Which part of globalisation goes against living in a kingdom of ends

A

The exploitation of workers. Moving a factory abroad because they won’t have to pay workers high wages or spend money on safety is not treating people as ends, but treating them as means to an ends

Q

Why is fair trade a good example of a kingdom of ends in practice

A

Exploitation can not be universalised, because no one wants to be exploited themselves. Fair trade is a contractual agreement where a decent wage is set and it is the duty of the employer to keep to this, it is an obligation not a choice.

Q

Why do transnational companies avoid equal treatment and why is this wrong

A

Because they can threaten to move their business to another country to avoid paying heigh taxes for example. This is wrong for Kant as there are absolute laws which must necessarily apply to all
