Q

Describe the layering system used to repair the cavity and the reasomning behind each layer?

A

A base cement of fast setting calcium hydroxide was used to stimulate reparative dentine formation.

Acid etch technique was used to increase dentin permeability before the intermediate later was applied.

The intermediate layer was a glass ionomer which aids in preventing caries development by providing good manginal seal and the continuous release of fluoride.

Bond was then applied followed by a light cured microhybrid composite applied in layers to minimise void formation due to shrinkage during curing.

Q

What are the differences between the Bornean Orang utan and humans?

A

The canine teeth are enlarged as is the diastema between the lateral incisor and the canine particularly in the maxillary arch. The third mandibular molar is larger than the second which is in turn larger than the first , in humans the first mandibular molar is the largest. ( M3>M2>M1)

In the maxillary arch the second mandibular molar is larger than the first and this is larger than the third( M2>M1>M3)

Q

A
  1. Pit type defects- focal reductions of enamel thickness in the form of either isolated or groups of pits
  2. Furrow type defects - furrows running horizontally around the complete crown or parts of it referred to currently as linear enamel hypoplasia.
  3. Plane type defects - extended areas of thinner than normal enamel

Q

What type of food are the orang utan teeth specifically adapted for and what changes to this diet may have contributed to the formation of caries in captivity?

A

Hard gritty food is the typical food of the orang utan.

The processed food and cooked meat feed to this orang utan in captivity may have contributed to the development of caries
