What is the epidemiology of Juvenille Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA)?
A
- Native American Indians most at risk
- Age of onset < 16 years

What are the types of JIA?
A
Types of JIA:
- Oligoarticular (most common)
- Polyarticular
- Systemic Onset (least common)

What are the clinical manifestations of Pauciarticular JIA?
A
- +ve ANA
- Mostly lower limb joints affected
- Chronic uveitis in 20% of cases

What are the clinical manifestations of Polyarticular JIA?
A
- Low grade fever
- Malaise
- Hepato-splenomegaly
- Mild anaemia
- Growth abnormalities
- Symmetric joint involvement

How is JIA treated and managed?
A
Management:
- Simple pain killers (1st line)
- NSAID’s (1st line)
- Methotrexate (2nd line)
- Anti-TNF (2nd line)
- IL-1 R-antagonist (2nd line)
IL-6 antagonist (2nd line)

How is JIA rehabilitation performed?
A
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy

- Synovectomy
