Justification is the act of assuming the righteousness of the one justified.

Legal and evangelical.
What is legal justification?
It is justification according to the law.
What is evangelical justification?
Justification according to the Gospel.
What is the opposite of justification?
Condemnation.
Does justification change the heart of man?
No. It changes his state.
What does justification do for him?
It declares him free without the imputation of guilt.
What does justification include?
It includes the pardon of sin and the promise of eternal life.
Do we merit justification?
No.
Through or by whom do we obtain justification?
By the merits of Jesus Christ.
Jn 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
What kind of blessing is justification?
It is a Gospel blessing.
Acts 13:39 “And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.”
Who are the subjects of justification?
Sinners.
How does evangelical justification differ from legal justification?
It is justification by grace.
What do we mean by grace?
Unmerited favor of Christ.
Jn 1:16 “And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.”
