Baptism Flashcards
Is baptism a church ordinance?
Yes.
What is baptism?
Baptism is the immersion of a believer in Christ in water in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
How do you know?
That baptism is a church ordinance
Christ commanded it.
Is baptism essential to salvation?
???
Yes, according to the teachings of the Scriptures.
Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
(Mt 28:18-20, Rom 6:3-5)
Who are the subjects of baptism?
Believers in Christ.
Would it be Christian baptism if the man did not repent and believe?
No. We are commanded to baptize such as repent and believe.
What is the design of baptism?
Baptism is to show forth our death, burial and resurrection, and to ensure our faith in the death, burial and resurrection of the Blessed Christ.
What does the figurative expression of baptism?
It is to declare the inward washing away of our sins.
Why do you believe that immersion is the only proper method?
Of baptism
Because it is the only method that will demonstrate the death, burial and resurrection. The Bible says that we are born of Christ by baptism.
Rom 6:3-4 “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
Can any other method show death, burial and resurrection?
No.
Would you baptize an infant?
No.
Why not?
Baptize an infant
An infant is not capable of repenting and believing.
Have you proof that immersion is the proper method of baptism?
By circumstantial evidence and historical records. John baptized in Enon because there was much water. Jesus went down in the Jordan to be baptized of John. Philip and the Eunuch went down into the river.
Would it have been necessary for them to have come down into the water to be sprinkled?
No.
Why then did they go down into the river?
To be immersed.
