Plan of 1772
The committee under chairmanship of Warren hastings prepared their first plan in 1772 .
. Under this plan, the territories of Bengal, orissa and Bihar were divided into districts ,for each district a collector was appointed who was responsible for collection of revenue.
. The administration of justice was divided separately as civil and criminal .
Muffussil Diwani adalat
This court wad presided by the district collector . He was empowered to decide civil cases such as property,inheritance,partnership,etc..
. The cases of succession, marraige, inheritance was decided according to the lawsnof Quran with regard of Muslims and cases regarding Hindus were decided according to shastras.
. The native law officers appointed qazis and pandit to handle Muslims and hindu laws .
Sadar diwani adalat
At Calcutta, a sadar diwani adalat was also established
. This court was empowered to hear appeals of muffussil diwani adalat in all the cases with more than 500 rupees .
. A fee of 5% was required to pay for petition of the case .
Small cause adalat
The head farmers od pagodas were empowered to decide petty cases of civil nature up to value of 10 rs .
Muffussil faujudaari adalat
In each district a muffussil faujudair adalat was established to decide all the criminal cases . Kazi and mufti along with moulries were to hold trials for all criminal law. The moulries were to expound the law and kazis and mufti were to decide cases .
Sadar Nizamat adalat
The muffusiil faujudari adalat cannot pass capital sentence without the approval of this court .
. It is the highest criminal court .
. It was established at Calcutta to hear muffussil faujudaari court appeals .
. This court was presided by an Indian judge known as darogari adalat and was assisted by chef kazis and muftis.
