A

-It shows how Jews should respond to this belief by showing total loyalty, love and dedication towards God.

Abraham and the promised land

A

Abraham was born in Ur. Abraham believed that their was only one God. Abraham and his wife decided to leave Ur to travel to Canaan. They settled at Haran and many years later God told Abraham to continue his journey to Canaan, promising to make a great nation through him. When they reached Canaan, God told Abraham, ‘I give you all the land that you see to you and your offspring forever’ (Genesis 13:15). This is known as the promised land.

The Covenant with Abraham

A

After Abraham travelled to Canaan, God made a covenant with him. God promised to make Abraham the father of many nations. Abraham was reauired to ‘walk in God’s ways and be blameless.’ (Genesis 17:1). The Covenant was sealed by Abraham becoming circumcised and circumcising all the males in his household. God allowed Abraham’s wife to be able to get pregnant even though she was old.

The escape from Egypt

A

-Jews were enslaved by the Egyptians.
-God told Moses to ask the Pharaoh to release the Jews.
-After God had sent a number of plagues to Egypt the Pharaoh agreed.
-The Jews left Egypt and arrived at Mount Sinai.
-Moses climbed the mountain and this is where God gave Moses the Ten commandments.

What are the 10 commandments?

A

1-You shall have no other Gods beside me.
2-You shall not make for yourself a sculptured image, or any likeness.
3-You shall not swear falsely by the name of the Lord your God.
4-Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy.
5-Honour your father and your mother.
6-You shall not murder.
7-You shall not commit adultery.
8-You shall not steal.
9-You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.
10-You shall not covet.
