Joints Flashcards
Identify the different joints
Circumduction
Cone Shape movement
Pronation
Rotation of forearm so palm down
Dorsiflexion
Lifting foot/toes upwards
Plantar Flexion
Pointing toe/foot downwards
Eversion
Plantar surface away from midline
Inversion
Plantar surface toward midline
Medial Rotation
Rotate towards midline
Abduction
Away from body
Adduction
Towards body
Flexion
Decreases angle of joint
Supination
Rotation of forarm so palm upwards
Lateral Rotation
Rotate away from midline
Extension
Increases angle of joint
Fibrous Joint
Fixed - linked with tough fibrous material and have NO movement
Cartilaginous Joint
Slightly movable - formed with tough fibrous cartilage with little/no movement
Synovial Joint
Freely movable joint - have smooth hyaline cartilage with secretion for friction
Gliding/Plane Joint
Bones flat to slide over each other
Hinge Joint
One bone fits into hole/concave of another
Ball and Socket Joint
One bone fits around into the cup of another
Pivot Joint
Rotates around one point of another bone
Condyloid Joint
Rounded and fits into opposite shape of another bone
Saddle Joint
Both bones concave and convex surfaces
Ligaments
Made of connective tissues and holds bones together linked with neighbouring bones where they meet at joints
