Jeremiah 1:5
When I had not yet formed you in the womb, I knew you, and when you had not yet emerged from the womb, I had appointed you; a prophet to the nations I made you.
Call to prophesy. God chose Jeremiah even before he was born.
Jeremiah 1:10
Behold, I have appointed you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and to crush, and to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant.
Jeremiah’s learns of his mission.
Jeremiah 1:11, 1:13
“I see a bubbling pot, whose foam is away from the north.” “I see a rod of an almond tree.”
Inagural symbols:
The almond tree is the 1st tree to blossom -> meaning this is going to happen fast.
The bubbling pot from the north - > means that the destruction is going to come from the North. Babylon. Even though they are really east, the route through the fertile crescent brings them down from the north into Judah.
Jeremiah 2:2
so said the Lord: I remember to you the lovingkindness of your youth, the love of your nuptials, your following Me in the desert, in a land not sown.
The good old days.
Jeremiah 2:10-11
For pass over [to] the isles of the Kittites and see, and send to Kedar and consider diligently, and see whether there was any such thing, Whether a nation exchanged a god although they are not gods. Yet My nation exchanged their glory for what does not avail.
Look at other nations. NOONE switches gods!!! But look at you Israel.
Jeremiah 2:18
And now, what have you to do in the way of Egypt to drink the water of the Shihor and what have you to do in the way of Assyria to drink the water of the river?
Why rely on Egypt?! Rely upon GOD!!!
Jeremiah 2:32
Will a virgin forget her jewelry, a bride her ribbons? Yet My people have forgotten Me for countless days.
Unbelievable!!! How could Israel forget God?!
Jeremiah 3:1
If a man sends away his wife, and she goes away from him, and marries another man, may he return to her again?
This is prohibitted in Deuteronomy.
No human husband would take back this wife, but yet, God always takes Israel back.
Jeremiah 3:6-7
Have you seen what the backsliding Israel has done? She goes on every lofty mountain and under every leafy tree, and she played the harlot there. And I said after she had done all these things: She shall return to Me. But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw [it].
The two sisters. משובה is Israel and בגודה is Judah. One sister goes whoring and is punished. The other sister sees all of this, and yet does not learn from it. You would think that Judah would have learned from Israel’s fate. But noooooooooooooooooo.
Jeremiah 4:4
Circumcise yourselves to the Lord and remove the foreskins of your heart
Remove the blockages from your hearts so that you may receive God.
Jeremiah 6:14
False hope.
Jeremiah 7:4
False idea that Jerusalem is somehow immune to destruction. Don’t rely upon false words like these. Improve your deeds now before it is too late.
Jeremiah 7:34
And I will stop from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the sound of mirth and the sound of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land shall be desolate.
Know this is Jeremiah. Similar words in the wedding blessings. This is said 4 times in Jeremiah. the first three times all is lost, but the 4th time it occurs hope and joy are restored.
Jeremiah 8:22-23
Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then, has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?
You bring all of your suffering upon yourselves. You could all easily be healed if you would only listen and do what is right.
Jeremiah 10:25
Pour out Your wrath upon the nations that do not know You and upon the families that have not called in Your name, for they have devoured Jacob and consumed him and destroyed him, and have wasted his dwelling.
Passover reference.
God uses the nations as his instruments but they too will be punished before it is all over.
Jeremiah 13:1
So said the Lord to me; Go and buy yourself a linen girdle and put it on your loins, and do not put it in water.

Jeremiah 13:23
Will a Cushite change his skin, or a leopard his spots? (So will you be able to improve, you who have become accustomed to do evil.)
You people will never change!!!
Jeremiah 15:2
And it shall be if they say to you, “Where shall we go?” you shall say to them, “So said the Lord: Such as are for death, to death, and such as are for the sword, to the sword, and such as are for famine, to famine, and such as are for captivity, to captivity.”
There are lots of ways to die. This is how it’s going to be. There is no escape for you.

Jeremiah 17:7-8
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord; the Lord shall be his trust. For he shall be like a tree planted by the water, and by a rivulet spreads its roots, and will not see when heat comes, and its leaves shall be green, and in the year of drought will not be anxious, neither shall it cease from bearing fruit.

And Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and placed him in the prison that is in the upper gate of Benjamin, which is in the house of the Lord.
Know that “Pashhur” is Jeremiah’s nemesis.

Jeremiah 20:14-15
Cursed be the day in which I was begotten; the day in which my mother bore me shall not be blessed. Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, saying, “A male child has been born to you,” making him glad.
Jeremiah - woah is me…I wish I never was born.

Jeremiah 23:29
Is not My word so like fire? says the Lord, and like a hammer that shatters a rock?
From Jeremiah. The rock is shattered into many many pieces. So too is Torah capable of many parts and many interpretations.
