I Isaiah Flashcards

I Isaiah 1:2-3
Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the Lord has spoken; Children I have raised and exalted, yet they have rebelled against Me. An ox knows his owner and a donkey his master’s crib; Israel does not know, my people does not consider.
Last Haftara of Rebuke before Tisha B’Av - “Shabbat Hazon” In other words, “even dumb beasts know their masters but Israel doesn’t.”

1 Isaiah 1:11-18
Of what use are your many sacrifices to Me? says the Lord. I am sated with the burnt-offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle; and the blood of bulls and sheep and hegoats I do not want. When you come to appear before Me, who requested this of you, to trample My courts? You shall no longer bring vain meal-offerings, it is smoke of abomination to Me; New Moons and Sabbaths, calling convocations, I cannot [bear] iniquity with assembly. Your New Moons and your appointed seasons My soul hates, they are a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing [them]. And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you, even when you pray at length, I do not hear; your hands are full of blood. Wash, cleanse yourselves, remove the evil of your deeds from before My eyes, cease to do evil. Learn to do good, seek justice, strengthen the robbed, perform justice for the orphan, plead the case of the widow. Come now, let us debate, says the Lord. If your sins prove to be like crimson, they will become white as snow; if they prove to be as red as crimson dye, they shall become as wool.
You can’t come and do sacrifices when you are corrupt and immoral. God doesn’t care about your sacrifices. Stop doing bad stuff. Learn to do good. If you do, all sin can be cleansed away.
I Isaiah 1:26-27
And I will restore your judges as at first and your counsellors as in the beginning; afterwards you shall be called City of Righteousness, Faithful City. Zion shall be redeemed through justice and her penitent through righteousness.
Repent and things will be good again.
I Isaiah 2:3-4
And many peoples shall go, and they shall say, “Come, let us go up to the Lord’s mount, to the house of the God of Jacob, and let Him teach us of His ways, and we will go in His paths,” for out of Zion shall the Torah come forth, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge between the nations and reprove many peoples, and they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift the sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
Similar to Micah’s vision of happy end times.
Note:
I Isaiah 2:12-18
For the Lord of Hosts has a day over everyone proud and high, and over everyone exalted, and he shall become humble. And over all the cedars of the Lebanon, high and exalted, and over all the oaks of the Bashan; And over all the high mountains and over all the exalted hills; And over every lofty tower and over every fortified wall; And over all the ships of Tarshish and over all coveted floors. And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of man shall be humbled, and the Lord alone shall be exalted on that day. And the idols shall completely pass away.
Vision of the day of reckoning. It will come. Against all the big and the mighty. The high will be humbled. Only God will be mighty.
I Isaiah 5:1
I will now sing for my beloved the song of my beloved about his vineyard; my beloved had a vineyard in a fertile corner.
Know it is Isaiah - Song of the Vinyard/

I Isaiah 6:1-3
In the year of the death of King Uzziah, I saw the Lord sitting on a high and exalted throne, and His lower extremity filled the Temple. Seraphim stood above for Him, six wings, six wings to each one; with two he would cover his face, and with two he would cover his feet, and with two he would fly. And one called to the other and said, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.”
Chapter 6 is the vision chapter. Isaiah’s call to prophesy. Vision of God on the throne, His robes fill the hall, angels everywhere.
Also, know that Isaiah’s unlikeliness to be a prophet is that he is impure of lips.
I Isaiah 7:3
And the Lord said to Isaiah, “Now go out toward Ahaz, you and Shear-Yashuv your son, to the edge of the conduit of the upper pool, to the road of the washer’s field.
Naming the son.
I Isaiah 7:14-16
Therefore, the Lord, of His own, shall give you a sign; behold, the young woman is with child, and she shall bear a son, and she shall call his name Immanuel. Cream and honey he shall eat when he knows to reject bad and choose good. For, when the lad does not yet know to reject bad and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread, shall be abandoned.
Christians translate “alma” as virgin, although the Hebrew for virgin is actually “b’tulah”. They use this as a foreshadow for Jesus.
I Isaiah 8:1-4
And the Lord said to me, “Take for yourself a large scroll, and write on it in common script, to hasten loot, speed the spoils. And I will call to testify for Myself trustworthy witnesses, Uriah the priest and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.” And I was intimate with the prophetess, and she conceived, and she bore a son, and the Lord said to me, “Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz. For, when the lad does not yet know to call, ‘Father’ and ‘mother,’ the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria shall be carried off before the king of Assyria.”
Warning that this is going to happen fast and soon. Not exactly tomorrow, BUT, before the child can say “mama” or “papa”.
I Isaiah 8:10
Take counsel and it will be foiled; speak a word and it will not succeed, for God is with us.
the son Immanuel.
I Isaiah 9:1
The people who walked in darkness, have seen a great light; those who dwell in the land of the shadow of death, light shone upon them.
The great light in the future.
I Isaiah
For a child has been born to us, a son given to us, and the authority is upon his shoulder, and the wondrous adviser, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, called his name, “the prince of peace.”
Davidic lineage of the future leadership. Christians see as prophesy of Jesus.

I Isaiah 11:1-9
And a shoot shall spring forth from the stem of Jesse, and a twig shall sprout from his roots. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and heroism, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. And he shall be animated by the fear of the Lord, and neither with the sight of his eyes shall he judge, nor with the hearing of his ears shall he chastise. And he shall judge the poor justly, and he shall chastise with equity the humble of the earth, and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips he shall put the wicked to death. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith the girdle of his loins. And a wolf shall live with a lamb, and a leopard shall lie with a kid; and a calf and a lion cub and a fatling [shall lie] together, and a small child shall lead them. And a cow and a bear shall graze together, their children shall lie; and a lion, like cattle, shall eat straw. And an infant shall play over the hole of an old snake and over the eyeball of an adder, a weaned child shall stretch forth his hand. They shall neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mount, for the land shall be full of knowledge of the Lord as water covers the sea bed.
Future Davidic lineage. He will be a wonderful and wise leader and king. All will be good and peaceful. Isaiah’s beautiful vision of end time.

I Isaiah 11:11-13
And it shall come to pass that on that day, the Lord shall continue to apply His hand a second time to acquire the rest of His people, that will remain from Assyria and from Egypt and from Pathros and from Cush and from Elam and from Sumeria and from Hamath and from the islands of the sea. And He shall raise a banner to the nations, and He shall gather the lost of Israel, and the scattered ones of Judah He shall gather from the four corners of the earth. And the envy of Ephraim shall cease, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not envy Judah, nor shall Judah vex Ephraim.
In-gathering of the exiles.
