הַעֵת לָכֶם אַתֶּם, לָשֶׁבֶת בְּבָתֵּיכֶם סְפוּנִים–וְהַבַּיִת הַזֶּה, חָרֵב.
Haggai 1:4
4 ‘Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your cieled houses, while this house lieth waste?
You are back in the land already- time to start rebuilding the Temple.
עֲלוּ הָהָר וַהֲבֵאתֶם עֵץ, וּבְנוּ הַבָּיִת; וְאֶרְצֶה-בּוֹ ואכבד (וְאֶכָּבְדָה), אָמַר יְהוָה.
Haggai 1:8
8 Go up to the hill-country, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.
start working on the Temple already
וַיָּעַר יְהוָה אֶת-רוּחַ זְרֻבָּבֶל בֶּן-שַׁלְתִּיאֵל פַּחַת יְהוּדָה, וְאֶת-רוּחַ יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בֶּן-יְהוֹצָדָק הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל, וְאֶת-רוּחַ, כֹּל שְׁאֵרִית הָעָם; וַיָּבֹאוּ וַיַּעֲשׂוּ מְלָאכָה, בְּבֵית-יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵיהֶם. {פ}
Haggai 1:14
And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
rebuilding the Temple. The governer is decendent of King David and the priest is zadokite.
ג מִי בָכֶם, הַנִּשְׁאָר, אֲשֶׁר רָאָה אֶת-הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה, בִּכְבוֹדוֹ הָרִאשׁוֹן; וּמָה אַתֶּם רֹאִים אֹתוֹ, עַתָּה–הֲלוֹא כָמֹהוּ כְּאַיִן, בְּעֵינֵיכֶם. ד וְעַתָּה חֲזַק זְרֻבָּבֶל נְאֻם-יְהוָה וַחֲזַק יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בֶּן-יְהוֹצָדָק הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל וַחֲזַק כָּל-עַם הָאָרֶץ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה–וַעֲשׂוּ: כִּי-אֲנִי אִתְּכֶם, נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת. ה אֶת-הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר-כָּרַתִּי אִתְּכֶם, בְּצֵאתְכֶם מִמִּצְרַיִם, וְרוּחִי, עֹמֶדֶת בְּתוֹכְכֶם–אַל-תִּירָאוּ. {ס} ו כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, עוֹד אַחַת מְעַט הִיא; וַאֲנִי, מַרְעִישׁ אֶת-הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֶת-הָאָרֶץ, וְאֶת-הַיָּם, וְאֶת-הֶחָרָבָה. ז וְהִרְעַשְׁתִּי, אֶת-כָּל-הַגּוֹיִם, וּבָאוּ, חֶמְדַּת כָּל-הַגּוֹיִם; וּמִלֵּאתִי אֶת-הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה, כָּבוֹד–אָמַר, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת. ח לִי הַכֶּסֶף, וְלִי הַזָּהָב–נְאֻם, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת. ט גָּדוֹל יִהְיֶה כְּבוֹד הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה הָאַחֲרוֹן, מִן-הָרִאשׁוֹן–אָמַר, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת; וּבַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה אֶתֵּן שָׁלוֹם, נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת. {פ}
Haggai 2:3-9
‘Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying: 3 Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? and how do ye see it now? is not such a one as nothing in your eyes? 4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work; for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts. 5 The word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt have I established, and My spirit abideth among you; fear ye not. {S} 6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and the choicest things of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. 8 Mine is the silver, and Mine the gold, saith the LORD of hosts. 9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than that of the former, saith the LORD of hosts; and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.’
2nd temple will be better than first.
וַאֲנִי אֶהְיֶה-לָּהּ נְאֻם-יְהוָה, חוֹמַת אֵשׁ סָבִיב; וּלְכָבוֹד, אֶהְיֶה בְתוֹכָהּ.
Zechariah 2:9
For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and I will be the glory in the midst of her.
God will be a wall of fire to protect
וַיַּרְאֵנִי, אֶת-יְהוֹשֻׁעַ הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל, עֹמֵד, לִפְנֵי מַלְאַךְ יְהוָה; וְהַשָּׂטָן עֹמֵד עַל-יְמִינוֹ, לְשִׂטְנוֹ.
Zecharia 3:1
And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him.
new high priest (a true zadokite preist). first mention of Satan.
ח שְׁמַע-נָא יְהוֹשֻׁעַ הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל, אַתָּה וְרֵעֶיךָ הַיֹּשְׁבִים לְפָנֶיךָ–כִּי-אַנְשֵׁי מוֹפֵת, הֵמָּה: כִּי-הִנְנִי מֵבִיא אֶת-עַבְדִּי, צֶמַח.
ט כִּי הִנֵּה הָאֶבֶן, אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לִפְנֵי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ–עַל-אֶבֶן אַחַת, שִׁבְעָה עֵינָיִם; הִנְנִי מְפַתֵּחַ פִּתֻּחָהּ, נְאֻם יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, וּמַשְׁתִּי אֶת-עֲוֹן הָאָרֶץ-הַהִיא, בְּיוֹם אֶחָד.
Zechariah 3:8-9
8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou and thy fellows that sit before thee; for they are men that are a sign; for, behold, I will bring forth My servant the Shoot.
9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone are seven facets; behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts: And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
after the cohen puts on new clothes, God tells of his future ruler Shoot (צֶמַח) and a better time to come
וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי, מָה אַתָּה רֹאֶה; ויאמר (וָאֹמַר) רָאִיתִי וְהִנֵּה מְנוֹרַת זָהָב כֻּלָּהּ וְגֻלָּהּ עַל-רֹאשָׁהּ, וְשִׁבְעָה נֵרֹתֶיהָ עָלֶיהָ–שִׁבְעָה וְשִׁבְעָה מוּצָקוֹת, לַנֵּרוֹת אֲשֶׁר עַל-רֹאשָׁהּ
וּשְׁנַיִם זֵיתִים, עָלֶיהָ: אֶחָד מִימִין הַגֻּלָּה, וְאֶחָד עַל-שְׂמֹאלָהּ.
Zechariah 4:2-3
And he said unto me: ‘What seest thou?’ And I said: ‘I have seen, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and its seven lamps thereon; there are seven pipes, yea, seven, to the lamps, which are upon the top thereof;
3 and two olive-trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.’
Zechariah’s vision of the menorah with two olive trees representing the new king and high priest.
וַיַּעַן וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי, לֵאמֹר, זֶה דְּבַר-יְהוָה, אֶל-זְרֻבָּבֶל לֵאמֹר: לֹא בְחַיִל, וְלֹא בְכֹחַ–כִּי אִם-בְּרוּחִי, אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת.
Zechariah 4:6
Then he answered and spoke unto me, saying: ‘This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying: Not by might, nor by power, but by My spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Zerubbabel new governer of Davd lineage
וָאָשׁוּב, וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֶרְאֶה; וְהִנֵּה, מְגִלָּה עָפָה.
Zechariah 5:1
Then again I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and behold a flying roll.
Zechariah’s vision of flying scroll- represents fufilment of punishment for sins that had been yet been punished.
וָאָשֻׁב, וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי וָאֶרְאֶה, וְהִנֵּה אַרְבַּע מַרְכָּבוֹת יֹצְאוֹת, מִבֵּין שְׁנֵי הֶהָרִים; וְהֶהָרִים, הָרֵי נְחֹשֶׁת.
Zechariah 6:1
1 And again I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between the two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
Zechariah’s vision of the four chariots. symbolic of the 4 directions and coverage of the entire Earth.
אֱמֹר אֶל-כָּל-עַם הָאָרֶץ, וְאֶל-הַכֹּהֲנִים לֵאמֹר: כִּי-צַמְתֶּם וְסָפוֹד בַּחֲמִישִׁי וּבַשְּׁבִיעִי, וְזֶה שִׁבְעִים שָׁנָה–הֲצוֹם צַמְתֻּנִי, אָנִי
Zechariah 7:5
‘Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying: When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, even these seventy years, did ye at all fast unto Me, even to Me?
5th- Av -tishabav destruction of Jlem
7th- Tishri - Tzom Gedaliah, loss of independence
after the rebuilding of Jerualem the people inquire if they have to keep these fasts. God asks ‘did I make these fasts’?
כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, צוֹם הָרְבִיעִי וְצוֹם הַחֲמִישִׁי וְצוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי וְצוֹם הָעֲשִׂירִי יִהְיֶה לְבֵית-יְהוּדָה לְשָׂשׂוֹן וּלְשִׂמְחָה, וּלְמֹעֲדִים, טוֹבִים; וְהָאֱמֶת וְהַשָּׁלוֹם, אֱהָבוּ. {פ}
Zechariah 8:19
Thus saith the LORD of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful seasons; therefore love ye truth and peace. {P
4th month - Tammuz - breach of walls

גִּילִי מְאֹד בַּת-צִיּוֹן, הָרִיעִי בַּת יְרוּשָׁלִַם, הִנֵּה מַלְכֵּךְ יָבוֹא לָךְ, צַדִּיק וְנוֹשָׁע הוּא; עָנִי וְרֹכֵב עַל-חֲמוֹר, וְעַל-עַיִר בֶּן-אֲתֹנוֹת.
Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, shout, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, thy king cometh unto thee, he is triumphant, and victorious, lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass.
messiah will ride on donkey.
גִּילִי - exeption to Isaiah rule- verb form normally indicates second Isaiah
ד וְעָמְדוּ רַגְלָיו בַּיּוֹם-הַהוּא עַל-הַר הַזֵּיתִים אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם, מִקֶּדֶם, וְנִבְקַע הַר הַזֵּיתִים מֵחֶצְיוֹ מִזְרָחָה וָיָמָּה, גֵּיא גְּדוֹלָה מְאֹד; וּמָשׁ חֲצִי הָהָר צָפוֹנָה, וְחֶצְיוֹ-נֶגְבָּה.
Zechariah 14:4
4 And His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleft in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, so that there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
Zechariah’s end of days vision. God rules from Jerusalem which is the center of the world
