Ezekiel 1:1
Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year in the fourth [month] on the fifth day of the month, as I was in the midst of the exile by the river Chebar-the heavens opened up, and I saw visions of God.
Vision of God on throne. Revelation of Ezekiel.
Ezekiel 3:1-3
- And He said to me; “Son of man, that which you find, eat; eat this scroll and go, speak to the house of Israel.” 2. So I opened my mouth, and He fed me this scroll. 3. And He said to me, “Feed your stomach and fill your bowels with this scroll, which I give you”; so I ate, and in my mouth it was as sweet as honey.
Sweet scroll. Ezekiel’s charge/mission.
Ezekiel 3:12
And a wind lifted me up, and I heard behind me the sound of a great uproar: “Blessed is the glory of the Lord from His place.”
Ezekiel is lifted up.
Baruch K’vod HaShem Mimkomo. The Angels say this. In the Kedusha.
Ezekiel 3:15
And I came to the exiled, to Tel Aviv, who dwelt by the river Chebar, and I dwelt where they were dwelling, and I sat there seven days bewildered among them.
Tel Aviv is a place in Bavel where they settled. Ezekiel was stunned and bewildered by his vision and by being lifted up and transported…can’t speak.
Ezekiel 4:1-3
- “Now you, son of man, take a brick for yourself and place it before you, and engrave upon it a city-Jerusalem. 2. And you shall lay siege upon it and build around it a stone-throwing catapult, and you shall pour over it a siege mound, and you shall place camps upon it and place villages around it. 3. And you shall take yourself an iron skillet and make it an iron wall between you and the city and direct your face toward it, and it will be in the siege and you shall besiege it; that is a sign to the house of Israel.
Ezekiel making his siege diarama.
Ezekiel 4:4-6
- And you shall lie on your left side, and you shall place the iniquity of the house of Israel through it; the number of the days that you shall lie on it, you will bear their iniquity. 5. Now I have given you the years of their iniquity by the number of days, three hundred and ninety days, and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
Ezekiel’s “lay on your side” vision.
Ezekiel 4:9-13
- And you, take yourself wheat and barley, and beans and lentils, and millet and spelt. You shall place them in one vessel, and prepare them for yourself for food; the number of days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days you shall eat it. 10. And your food that you will eat shall be with a weight, twenty shekels for a day; from time to time you shall eat it. 11. And water by measure you shall drink, a sixth of a hin; from time to time you shall drink [it]. 12. And as barley cakes you shall eat it, and they shall bake it with human excrement before their eyes.” 13. And the Lord said, “So will the children of Israel eat their bread unclean among the nations where I shall drive them.”
Ezekiel’s “crappy” bread image. Unholy food.
Ezekiel 5:1-4
- “Now you, son of man, take yourself a sharp sword, a cobbler’s razor you shall take to yourself, and you shall pass it over your head and over your beard, and you shall take yourself a scale and divide them. 2. A third with fire shall you burn it in the midst of the city as the completion of the days of the siege; and you shall take a third and strike [it] with a sword all around it, and a third you shall scatter to the wind, and I shall unsheathe a sword after them. 3. And you shall take from there a few by number, and you shall bind them in your skirts. 4. And you shall take more of them, and you shall cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them with fire; therefrom a fire will emerge to all the house of Israel.”
Hair symbolism. What will happen to the remaining. Like the hair, 1/3 will be cut up (die by the sword), 1/3 will be burned, and 1/3 will be scattered to the wind.
Ezekiel 8:10
And I came and saw, and behold, every form of creeping thing and animal of detestation and all the idols of the house of Israel, engraved on the wall around and around!
Ezekiel’s vision of Jerusalem and the abominations they are doing. It is inscribed on the walls.
Ezekiel 9:4
And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and you shall mark a sign upon the foreheads of the men who are sighing and moaning over all the abominations that were done in its midst.”
This is the angel (the man in the white linen) with his tablet going around marking the ones that will be spared.
KNOW that the ones who are marked are marked to be spared, not killed.
Ezekiel 9:11
And behold, the man clothed in linen, on whose loins was the tablet, replied with a word, saying, “I have done according to all that You have commanded me.”
The angel has marked the moaners and sighers of Jerusalem. The marked ones are the ones who will be spared.

Ezekiel 10:1-7
- And I saw, and behold on the expanse that was over the heads of the cherubim, [a thing] like a sapphire stone; like the appearance of a throne appeared upon them. 2. And He said to the man clothed in linen, and He said, “Come between the wheels under the cherub, and fill your hands with fiery coals from the cherubim, and cast [them] upon the city,” and he came, before my eyes. 3. Now the cherubim were standing at the right of the House when the man came, and the cloud filled the inner court. 4. Then the glory of the Lord lifted itself from upon the cherub onto the threshold of the House, and the House was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the splendor of the glory of the Lord. 5. And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard until the outer court, like the voice of God Almighty when He speaks. 6. And it came to pass when He commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, “Take fire from between the wheels, from among the cherubim,” he came and stood beside the wheel. 7. And the cherub extended his hand from among the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and he picked [it] up and gave [it] into the hands of the one clothed in linen, and he took [it] and left.
The spaceship is leaving.
The Kavode leaves the Beit HaMikdash under the protection of the cloud/dust.
Relation to the Cohen throwing up coals to create the protective cloud.
Ezekiel 10:19
And the cherubim raised their wings and lifted themselves from the earth, before my eyes, when they left, and the wheels corresponded to them, and it stood at the entrance of the eastern gate of the House of the Lord, and the glory of the God of Israel was upon them from above.
Lift off!!!
Ezekiel 11:16
I have become for them a minor sanctuary in the lands where they have come.
God referring to the remnants. He will still be a little holiness for us in another land. God has not totally left us.
Ezekiel 11:19
And I shall give them one heart, and a new spirit I shall place within them, and I shall remove the heart of stone from their flesh, and I shall give them a heart of flesh.
Heart of stone replaced with heart of flesh.
note: Jeremiah has “circumsize your hearts” and Ezekiel has replace the stone heart with flesh. Same concept, different imagery.
Ezekiel 11:22-23
- Then the cherubim lifted their wings, and the wheels corresponded to them, and the glory of the God of Israel was over them, from above. 23. And the glory of the Lord rose away from upon the midst of the city, and it stood on the mountain that was on the east of the city.
End of Ezekiel’s vision in Jerusalem, right before the wind carries him back to the exiles.
LIFT OFF!!!
Ezekiel 12:3
And you, son of man, make yourself implements for exile, and go into exile day by day before their eyes, and you shall go into exile from your place to another place before their eyes; perhaps they will see, for a rebellious house are they.
Put on your Galut gear cause you’re going.
Ezekiel 16:6-9
- And I passed by you and saw you downtrodden with your blood, and I said to you, ‘With your blood, live,’ and I said to you, ‘With your blood, live.’ 7. Myriads, like the plants of the field I have made you, and you have increased and grown, and you have come with perfect beauty, breasts fashioned and your hair grown, but you were naked and bare. 8. And I passed by you and saw you, and behold your time was the time of love, and I spread My skirt over you, and I covered your nakedness, and I swore to you and came into a covenant with you, says the Lord, and you were Mine. 9. And I washed you with water, and I rinsed your blood off you, and I anointed you with oil.
God says, “You were an abandoned baby when I found you. And I lifed you up and raised you and made you beautiful. And then you grew up and I married you. And you have played the HARLOT!!!”
Ezekiel 18:20
The soul that sins, it shall die; a son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, and a father shall not bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.
The new doctrine of Tshuvah. The sins of the father no longer go on to the son. Each of us is responsible for his/her own actions.
Ezekiel 18:23 18:32
Do I desire the death of the wicked? says the Lord God. Is it not rather in his repenting of his ways that he may live?
For I do not desire the death of him who dies, says the Lord God: so turn away and live!”
New Tshuvah doctrine. God doesn’t want us to die..God wants us to repent and return.
Ezekiel 29:3-4
- Speak and you shall say; So says the Lord God: Behold I am upon you, O Pharaoh, king of Egypt, the great crocodile that lies down in the midst of its rivers, who said, “My river is my own, and I made myself.” 4. And I will put hooks in your jaws and I will cause the fish of your rivers to fasten onto your scales, and I will drag you up out of the midst of your rivers and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales.
God curses king of Egypt. He’s like a big crocopotomus wallowing in the river and God will hook him and drag him out.
Ezekiel 34:12
As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his separated flocks, so will I seek out My flocks, and I will save them from all the places where they have scattered on a cloudy and dark day.
Metaphor of the leaders of Israel being like shepherds. God rebukes them for tending to themselves and not their flocks. But God will gather the flocks and take them from the nations.
כְּבַקָּרַת רֹעֶה עֶדְרוֹ is part of Unatanetokef
Ezekiel 36:25-28
- And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you will be clean; from all your impurities and from all your abominations will I cleanse you. 26. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the heart of stone out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. 27. And I will put My spirit within you and bring it about that you will walk in My statutes and you will keep My ordinances and do [them]. 28. Then will you dwell in the land that I gave your fathers, and you will be a people to Me, and I will be to you as a God.
God will purify Israel with water. We weill get a new heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 37:5 37:11
So says the Lord God to these bones; Behold, I will cause spirit to enter into you, and you shall live!
Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are all the house of Israel. Behold they say, ‘Our bones have become dried up, our hope is lost, we are clean cut off to ourselves.’
Ezekiel “valley of the dry bones” stuff.
Note: ואבדה תקוותנו and how it was turned to create the Hatikvah.
