Shintoism
A religion that emphasizes respect in nature, family, and others.
Kami
A Shinto god.
Prince Shotoku
He created the Japanese constitution. It had rules people were expected to obey and was inspired by Confucianism.
Confucianism
A belief system that focuses on personal ethics and morality.
Shogun
The commander of military forces.
Samurai
The Japanese warriors. They followed a strict code of obeying their master.
Bushido
The code of the Samurai.
Daimyo
A feudal landowner.
Heian period
The final period in the Japanese classical era. Had lots of the arts, like literature and clothing. The Renaissance for Japan.
Torii
A gateway marking the entrance to a Shinto shrine.
Animism
The belief that humans, animals, plants, rocks, and rivers, all had spirits.
