Tang Dynasty
A Sui dynasty general took over. 618-907 CE. They improved government and brought back civil service exams.
Song Dynasty
After the Tang fell a general took over. 960-1279 CE. They had economic prosperity and many cultural achievements.
Mongol Empire
They took over China with leaders like Genghis and Kublai Khan. They were Buddhists. From Mongolia. Ended with the Ming.
Genghis Khan
Elected in 1206. He made an army of 100,000 to take over China. Started in 1211, in 3 years they took over all of Northern China. He died in 1227.
Kublai Khan
The grandson of Genghis. Took over for him in 1260. In 1271, started invading Southern China, finished by 1279. This was the Mongol empire but is now the Yuan. He died in 1294.
Yuan Empire
Only lasted about 100 years after start and Kublai ruled for the first 30. Did not use civil service exams. A good time for their wealth and many people were happy.
Marco Polo
Wrote a book about traveling the world, he brought lots of tourists to many places, including China. Was in China during Yuan empire.
Ming Dynasty Achievements
The Forbidden City, Census, Strong Government, Rebuilt canals and farms, New roads, New forests, Agriculture thrived, Expanded the great canal for rice production and transportation, More food, More people, Silk, Cotton, Books, Theatres, Zheng He.
Zheng He
Major Chinese explorer. He was the first person from China to go to Africa. He voyages stopped because the government stopped paying him because they were to expensive.
The Silk Road
System of trading networks throughout Asia and Eurasia. Traded Spices, Cottons, Currency, Foods, and Ideas. Responsible for the cultural diffusion of China and Japan.
Reunification
After the collapse of the Han dynasty, the Sui reunified China with emperors.
Buddhism
Most common religion through Chinese history. Follows the idea of peace and tranquility, leading to ultimate satisfaction.
