1
Q
Wall tension and associated law
A
The law of LaPlace describes the various factors affecting the wall tension:
Wall tension (T) = (P * r) / (2 h) Where P is the pressure within the ventricle, r is the radius of the ventricle, and h is the thickness of the ventricular wall
2
Q
Reynold’s equation
A
Re = ρUL/u
Where ρ is density, U is equal to fluid velocity, L is the length of the tubing, and u is the viscosity of the fluid. Note that the modified Bernoulli Equation applies to laminar flow (ReD < 2300, parabolic flow profile), but not to turbulent flow (ReD > 4000, blunted flow profile)
3
Q
CPP
A
CPP=DBP - LVEDP
4
Q
Modified Fick equation
A
VO2 = CO * (CaO2 - CvO2)
Where VO2 is oxygen consumption (mL/min), CO is cardiac output (L/min), CaO2 is arterial oxygen content (mL/L), and CvO2 is mixed venous oxygen content (mL/L).
