ITA-Block 1 Flashcards
When must the ATC inform FSS about inbound IFR AC?
At least 15 mins prior to the AC establishing contact
ELT
Emergency Locator Transmitter
Who is responsible for providing AWBS?
FIC
What are the FIRs?
Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal, Moncton, Gander.
Southern control area
FL180 to FL600
Northern control area
FL230 to FL600
Arctic control area
FL270 to FL600
Control zone
Between 3 and 7 NM in diameter -usually from ground level to about 3000feet AAE -designated around certain aerodromes to keep IFR AC within controlled airspace during approaches and to facilitate the control of VFR and IFR traffic
Terminal control area
Established at high volume airports to provide an IFR control service to arriving, departing and en route AC.
Radii of 45, 35, and 12 NM from FL180, 9500feet, 2200feet to 1200feet respectively
Transition area
Established when it is considered advantageous to provide additional controlled airspace so that IFR aircraft will stay in controlled airspace during instrument approaches. From 700 to 2200feet with a radius of 15NM.
Control area extension
Used where designated controlled airspace is insufficient to permit required separation. From 2200feet to FL 180 with a radius of 60NM
Low level airway
From 2200 to FL180 with 4NM (or 4.34) on either side of the centre
What are the services provided by FSS?
Airport advisory service -remote airport advisory service -vehicle control service -ATC support -weather observations -DF services -emergency and safety services
Class A
IFR only -from FL180 to 600
Class B
IFR and VFR -all low level controlled airspace above 12500ft to at and above MEA, whichever is higher
