Q

outline Guanilo’s perfect argument

A

Uses Anselms deductive argument logic to disprove his ontological argument on the basis of a clear concept that exists in out understanding
p1- there is an island which exists in my understanding as the greatest of all islands which no other island can be greater
p2- everyone can concieve of such an isalnd
p3- it is best to exist in reality as well as just understanding
c1- the island must exist

Q

argument for not using apriori arguments to prove the existence of something

A

P1 nothing that can be distinctly conceived entails a
contradiction
P2 For any being that we can conceive of as existing, we
can also conceive as non existent
C therefore there isn’t any being whose non existence
entails a contradiction

Q

Ayer’s Objection

A

P1 A priori propositions are certain because they are
tautologies
P2 From a set tautologies only further tautologies can
be validly deduced
P3 The existence of anything, including God, is not
tautology
C Therefore we cannot validly deduce the existence of
God
