3 types of stereomerism

Conformers
What differs in chain isomers
Arrangement of chain like n pentane , iso pentane and neo pentane
What differs in position isomers
Position of the functional group like 1-butanol and 2-butanol
What differs in functional isomerism
Nature of functional group like functional isomers of alcohols are ethers, acid are esters , for aldehydes are ketones
What differs in metamers
Nature of alkyl/ aryl group on both side of functional group.
What causes tautomerism
Tautomerism is due to migration of H from C to adjacent O or N
What’s a chiral carbon
A carbon atom with four different substituents
The three dimensional arrangement of the groups attached to chiral carbon is called ?
Configuration
Stereoisomers with an internal mirror plane are called ? compounds ? Are they chiral ?
Meso compounds. They are not chiral.
What’s a racemic mixture ?
It’s a 50:50 mixture of enantiomers; such a mixture does not rotate plane polarised light even through it contains chiral substances
Define enantiomers
Racemisation is a process whereby the absolute configuration of a chiral centre is converted to its mirror image configuration
