ISO Flashcards
ISO is one of what?
three pillars of photography
what is ISO?
ISO is a camera setting that will brighten or darken a photo.
what happens when you increase the ISO number?
the photos will progressively brighter, for this reason, ISO can help you capture images in darker environments, or be more flexible about your aperture and shutter speed settings.
what is the consequence of raising the ISO?
a photo taken at a too high of an ISO will show a lot of grain, known as noise, and might not be usable.
when should you only raise the ISO?
you should only raise your ISO when you are unable to brighten the photo via shutter speed or aperture instead. so when brightening a photo via ISO is always a trade off.
what is base ISO?
the lowest native ISO on the camera is the “base ISO”
why is the base ISO an important setting?
it gives you the potential to produce the highest image quality minimising the visibility of noise as much as possible.
what is the number of the base ISO on Nikon and Canon camera?
100
why should you always aim to use the base ISO?
to achieve the highest image quality
when is it not possible to use the base ISO?
when working in low light conditions
the higher the ISO the more…?
noise
high ISO creates noise therefore you should use low ISO unless…?
conditions, or creative intent require you to use them.
always stick to a low ISO of 100/200, when…?
when there is plenty of light and to minimise the appearance of noise as much as possible.
the setting Auto ISO works great when?
low light
when do you increase ISO?
when there is not enough light for the camera to capture a sharp bright photos any other way.
