The struggle against evil. This may be an inward personal struggle or an outward collective struggle

The struggle to maintain faith and defend Islam
Greater Jihad definition
The personal inward struggle of all Muslims to live in line with the teachings of their faith.
Lesser Jihad
The outward struggle to defend one’s faith and country from faith.
Holy war
Fighting for a religious cause or God probably controlled by a religious leader
In other words, what is lesser Jihad
It is holy war
Which Jihad is more important and essential to all Muslims
Greater Jihad
Two quotations that Muhammad said which refer to Jihad
’ This is My path, leading straight so follow it. This is what He commands you to do’
‘those who have believed, migrated, and striven for God’s cause can look forward to God’s mercy: God is most forgiving and merciful’
List examples of what Muslims can do for Greater Jihad
And what this does to a Muslim
Must observe 5 pillars
This is required for greater jihad, which purifies Muslims from all evil traits
Must devote their lives to Go eg avoid temptations like drugs and alcohol
(Some take it even further and memorise Qur’an which requires discipline and patience)
Improve community like eg by giving Zakah
In These ways, Muslims spiritually and deepen their relationship with God.
Is Jihad for both (Sunni and Shi’a Muslims?) If so, then what is the difference between them
Yes. it is. The difference: For Shi’a Muslims, jihad is part of the 10 obligatory acts however it is not part of the 5 Pillars for Sunni muslims
