Q

Why is when netscape went public an important flattener?

A

8/9/95. Netscape went public. This browser gave us the first commercial browser and made the internet alive as a device that everyone could use and connect with one another. Netscape commercialized transmission protocols that made sure the internet would not be under the control of a single company. It starts the “.net” and a trillion dollars in investment in fiber optic cables made people from all over the world neighbors. Allowed people to communicate for free!

Q

What does Friedman mean by triple convergence?

A

India, China, and Russia open up and these people join the playing field. That’s 300 million people that are going to shape the 21st century. We’re going from vertical to horizontal. This is going to be the mother of all inflection points. It’s going to be disguised as a political perfect storm: 9/11, Emron, dot.com busts. Right when the world got flat, we’re looking the other way. These CEOs and higher-ups all know what is going on but they haven’t told anyone. There is no such thing as an American job anymore. Everything we call the IT revolution is just the warm up act. We are now just at the end of the beginning.
