When and what was the Iron Curtain speech?

A

1945 - A speech given by Churchill to describe the metaphorical divide between communism and capitalism (east and west). Churchill used this speech to warn the western world of Stallins’ threats and to prevent isolationism as a tactic from being used by the US, as was used in WW1 and WW2.

A

A description of the impenetrable Soviet control over Eastern Europe from the end of WW2.
The divide/line between communist east and the west.

What was the reaction to Churchill’s iron curtain speech?

A

After fiving the speech in 1945, many people were angered by the message as they did not want another threat of war to world peace. When Stalin heard the speech, he compared Churchill to Hitler, and suggested that WW2 was caused by capitalism.

What and when was the long telegram?

A

1946 - US government contacted the US embassy in Moscow asking for an analysis of the Soviets. George Kennan replied with 8,000 word telegram suggesting the policies that should be implemented to protect the US.

This telegram shaped the future policy of containment.
