Investigating factors affecting reistance Flashcards

Q

how to investigate factors affecting resistance

A

Set up a circuit with ammeter in series and voltmeter in parallel

  1. Attach a crocodile clip to the wire at 0cm on a ruler
  2. Add a second crocodile clip to the wire 10cm away from the first one, and mark the length between the clips
  3. Close the switch then record the current through the wire and voltage across it
  4. Open the switch, then move the second crocodile clip a few cm along the wire, record the new length current and voltage
  5. Repeat for a number of different lengths of wire

Q

what conclusions do you get from this experiment

A
  • resistance is directly proportional to length, the longer the wire, the higher the resistance
