Multiples

A

The same invention is being created by various people around the world
Due to the belief that inventions are inevitable to happen (in the air) but will eventually be created

A

Protects ideas, lasts 20 years
Used to be based on the time of invention, but now based on who filed the patent first
Promotes research and development

Q

Elisha Gray

A

Was the first in line to file the patent of the telephone, but Bell filed the patent first due to knowing the system, and someone in the patent office
Thus, leading to being rejected for the patent

Q

Daniel Drawbaugh

A

From Philadelphia, invented the telephone in 1866 or 1867 (way before Bell, but doesn’t patent it until later)

Q

Antonio Meucci

A

Same laboratory as Bell, inventing the telephone
In 2002, there was a case by the US government about how Meucci says he invented the telephone and that it got stolen, believing that it could have been Bell’s team
Yet, wasn’t decided since the Representative believed Meucci and Senate believed Bell

11
Q

David Sarnoff

A

He worked with Armstrong about radio due to it not sounding clear, the RCA company
Scared due to the original radio using amplitude, doesn’t want to sell FM radio, and would obliterate Armstrong if he uses and tries to sell FM radio
Starts to use FM radio after Armstrong dies, but doesn’t give Armstrong credit
Armstrong’s wife continues to fight for her husband and wins
He wanted to be the leader of the television

16
Q

Paul Nipkow

A

Part of the race for the creation of the television
Uses disks with holes to see images and project them

17
Q

Vladimir Zworykin

A

Works with David Sarnoff

18
Q

Philo T. Farnsworth

A

Main competitor against Sarnoff about television
Inventor and fighter against the RCA corporation for the invention of the television
Wants to be the next Edison and Bell, had access to science fiction magazines and journals
Has a flash of insight when plowing the dirt in his family farm, and how the lines can be done to trick the brain to see the image projected on the screen
Talks to his teacher about his idea, works in the Navy, but quits due to not wanting his invention being owned by someone else
Looks for inventors, companies look for him (RCA), invites his competitors to his lab, then they patent the television
Farnsworth sued RCA and had to prove that it came up with the invention first, does it by looking for his old teacher who he gave a picture of his idea

19
Q

Hugo Gernsback

A

writes/edits science fiction magazines
had inventions like a version of VR

20
Q

Image dissector

A

Sarnoff & Zworykin create their own version, allowing for TV to work
A camera tube that converts light into an electrical signal

21
Q

John Logie Baird

A

Farnsworth goes to work for him after everything with the television
