1
Q

Verbal learning

A

approach to memory that relies principally on the learning of lists of words and nonsense syllables

Function is probably indirect, forming part of the process of perception. Allows us to build up a coherent representation of the world(ex movie looks like movie and not a series of static frames)

Q

Vad e masking(o forward respektive backward masking)

A

a process in which the perception and/or storage of a stimulus is influenced by events occurring immediately before presentation (forward masking) or more commonly after(backward masking)

Exempel(behöver ej svara detta): brightness masking(operating at a peripheral retinal level) or pattern masking(mask comprising broadly similar features to the target, ex jumbled fragments of letters. Influences a later stage of visual processing)

Q

3 Assumptions in most theories of working memory

A
  • most assume that woking memory acts as a form of mental workspace, providing a basis for thought.
  • usually assumed to be linked to attention
  • usually assumed to be able to draw on other resources within short-term and long-term memory

A

open to intentional retrieval
Split into episodic and semantic memory:
* Semantic memory refers to knowledge of the world; meaning of words, sensory attributes(ex color of a lemon), how society works, how to behave etc - inherently general in nature

    (Atkinson & Shiffrin, 1968)
  • Minne som process
    (Nairne, 1990, 2002; Neath & Surprenant, 2003)
  • Eller både och
