Introduction To Nervous System-note 2 Flashcards
3 basic functions of nervous system
Sensory (neurons)- info about changes within and around body. Send signals to CNS
Integrative (association neuron or inter neuron)- info brought together, creates sensations, thoughts, mem
Motor (neurons)- responses to signals sent from CNS to effectors aka muscles and glands
Peripheral nervous system is divided into these systems..
Somatic nervous system aka skeletal muscles
Hutanamic nervous system aka smooth muscles and glands
What are Neuroglial cells?
Supportive tissue of nervous system. There are five types
Microglial cells function? 1 of 5 of the Neuroglial cells
Scatter throughout digest debris/bacteria
Oligodendrocytes function? 1 of 5 Neuroglial cells
Provide insulation around axon in CNS
Astrocytes function? 1 of 5 Neuroglial cells
Connect blood vessels to Neurons
Ependymal cells function? 1 of 5 Neuroglial cells
Form a membrane that carves cavity in brain
Swhwann cells function? 1 of 5 Neuroglial cells
Form insulating sheath around the nerves
What is a reflex arc?
Neural circuit that travels through spinal cord but doesn’t need brain allows for reflex actions
What happens if you stab yourself with thorn?
- pain receptor in finger stimulates an afferent neuron
- Afferent neuron transmits the impulse to the spinal cord
- Interneurons integrate info
- Efferent neuron stimulates the flexor muscle to contract
- Response muscle contracts
Central nervous system?
Peripheral nervous system ?
CNS- brain and spinal cord
PNS- nerves and ganglla.
31 spinal nerves and 12 cranial
