Anatomy Of Eye-note 5 Flashcards
Cornea
Transparent membrane on front of the eye. Begins process of seeing by focusing light onto retina. 5 layers to it
Sclera
White of eye
Choroid
Middle layer of eye. Co atone several layers of blood vessels which support other parts of eye
Ciliary body
Ring of tissue between iris and choroid muscles and blood vessels that changes the shape of the lens
Iris
Colour of eye. Changes amount of light let in by alternating pupil size
Pupil
Black part of iris that changes size in response to light
Lens
Behind iris, second component of focusing light rays
Retina
Thin lining, light sensitive cells convert image to electronic impulses
Fovea (yellow spot )
Small part of retina, many cells which allow colour vision
Blind spot
Optic disk where optic nerve fibres exit the eye and where there is no light sensitive cells
Vitreous humour
Jelly matter between lens and retina
Aqueous humour
Clear fluid between in and out chambers. Important in controlling pressure inside eye and giving shape
Conjunctiva
Mucous on inside of eyelid and surface of eyeball
