How will we study anatomy, that is different from traditional?
Traditionally, you learn systemic anatomy, we are learning Regional Anatomy
Describe Anatomical position
Standing with head, eyes, toes directed forward, upper limbs at sides with PALMS FACING FORWARD
- Lower limbs together with feet facing forward
- Males penis is erect
In Anatomical Position, right and left refer to body of… who?
The body being viewed (patient) NOT yours
Define
Superior
(cranial)
Define Medial
toward midline
Define Lateral
Away from body, towards outside
Define Inferior
(caudal)
Define Proximal
Nearer to the trunk or point of origin (usually used on limbs)
Define Distal
Farther from trunk or point of origin (usually used on limbs)
Define Palmar/ Plantar
In reference to hands and feet,
Palmar: Palm
Plantar: Bottom of foot
Define Dorsal
In reference to hands and feet-
Dorsa of hand: Back of hand
Dorsa of foot: top of foot
Ventral Vs. Dorsal
Ventral: Anterior
Dorsal: Posterior
Ipsilateral/Contralateral
Same/Opposite side
