Coronal (could see an anterior-posterior view or a posterior-anterior view)

What view are x-rays?
posterior to anterior
What view are cat scans and MRI’s?
Caudal-cranial (ie. viewed as if the patient is lying on their back and you are looking at them from the feet up to the head)
Medial
Nearer to the midline/middle of body
Lateral
Near to side/outside of body
Ipsilateral
on the same side of the body as another structure
Contralateral
on opposite side of the body as another structure
Proximal
nearer to the attachment point of a limb or the origin of a structure (mostly used for limbs- ex: sacrum is inferior to the vertebrae NOT distal because there is no point of attachment between the two)
GI tract: mouth is proximal versus anus is distal
Distal
nearer to the far end or point of a limb
Prone position
person lying flat with face and chest down, back facing up
Supine position
person lying flat with face and chest up, back on the ground
Does the purple line represent the visceral or parietal pleura?
visceral (covers the organ)

Right hypochondriac region
