Intro to Psych: Reliability & Validity Flashcards
1
Q
Reliability
A
= the extent to which an experiment, test or measuring procedure yields the same results on repeated trials ie. the degree of stability exhibited when a measurement is repeated under identical conditions
2
Q
Validity
A
= the degree to which a research study has produced results that accurately measure the behaviour or event that it claims to have measured
- internal validity: extent that undesirable variables have been excluded from influencing the outcome
- external validity: extent that the measure extrapolates/generalises to situations outside the test settings
- face validity: the extent that a test appears to measure what it claims to measure
- predictive validity: extent to which test scores predict later performance/behaviour
