Intro To musculoskeletal System Flashcards
..
This is an avascular component
Cartilage
Side note..epithelium is also avascular. Supplied by basement membrane
Rounded, knuckle like articular area
Condyle
Rounded process
Malleolus
Sesamoid bones?
Bones that develop within a tendon. Eg. Patella
Intramembranous bones examples
Skull, clavicle, mandibles
Developed from fibrous membranes
Where are nerves found in the bone
Articular extremities and along the vessels
Examples of synarthrosis joints
Sutures of the skull
Bones closely apposed and often firmly interlocking along a wavy line. United by a small amount of dense connective tissue
Syndesmosis
Adjacent bones bound together by a ligament
Examples: ankle, coracockavicular joint, inferior tibiofibular joint
This cartilaginous joint is mainly found in the midline of the body
Symphysis.
Secondary cartilaginous joint
Bones United by fibrocartilage and allow only a limited degree of movement in the body.
Eg. Pubic symphisis, symphisis menti, iv disc
Primary cartilaginous joint also known as
Synchondroses. Eg. Forst rib and manubrium sterni. No movement possible
Condylloid joint
This permits movement in two planes, allowing flexion, extension, adduction, abduction, and circumduction.
Eg: the wrist-joint.
metacarpophalangeal
Hinge joint
Movement in only one plane. Permits flexion and extension only. Example elbow, knee, interphalangeal joints
Pivot joint?
Allows rotatory movement about a single axis. Examples : neck, wrist, and elbow
Plane joint examples
Examples of plane joints are acromilclavicular joint, intermetarpal joints
Saddle joint
Saddle joints are said to be biaxial, allowing movement in the sagittal and frontal planes. Examples of saddle joints in the human body include thecarpometacarpal jointof thethumb, thesternoclavicular jointof the thorax, the incudomalleolar joint of the middle ear, and the calcaneocuboid joint of the heel.
