Intro to Hypothesis Testing 3.2 Flashcards
Research hypothesis and predictions
•Research hypothesis – plausible explanation for the relationship
between variables
•Predictions – specific outcomes that would occur if the hypothesis
was true
Sampling distributions
-Sampling distribution histogram y= number of samples, x= sample means
-When you measure multiple
samples from the same
population, you will get
different values
Statistical hypothesis
makes a claim about the state of variables
within the framework of a statistical test
Null H:there is no statistically significant difference between the
group means
Alternative H:there is a statistically significant difference between
the group means
Two tailed tests
•The mean of the experimental group is significantly larger OR smaller than
the control group
One tailed test
•The mean of the experimental group is significantly larger than the control
•The mean of the experimental group is significantly smaller than the control
-less common
