What are intrauterine polyps?
A
Small, usually benign, tumours that grow into uterine cavity

Where do intrauterine polyps originate from?
A
Endometrial in origine
Some: Submucous fibroids

In what demographic do they commonly present?
A
Women 40-50yrs
High oestrogen levels
Postmenopausual women if on Tamoxifen for breast carcinoma

How do Intrauterine polyps commonly present?
A
Asymptomatic
Often menorrhagia & intramenstrual bleeding
Occasionally: Cervical prolapse

How are Intrauterine polyps diagnosed
A
Ultrasound
Hysteroscopy performed due to abnormal bleeding

How do you treat intrauterine polyps
A
Resection of polyp with cutting diathermy / avulsion
