Intracranial Pressure Flashcards
What is the CSF volume?
150mls
What is the normal CSF pressure in adults?
<10-15 mmHg
What is the Monroe-Kellie Doctrine?
Increase in volume in one of the intracranial constituents must be compensated for by decrease in volume of one of the others
What is the relationship between cerebral perfusion pressure and ICP?
CCP = MAP-ICP
What is the cushings reflex?
Bradycardia, Systolic hypertension and irregular respirations
What is craniosynostosis?
One or more of the sutures of the skull fuse too early causing pressure inside the skull to increase as the brain grows
When is an urgent head CT required?
GCS<13 at any point, or <14 2 hours after injury, any seizures or suspected skull fracture (more specifics for over 65s)
What can cause hydrocephalus?
Impaired CSF reabsorption or CSF flow obstruction
