interviews Flashcards
define a clinical interview in psychology
interview is conducted face to face between clincian and paitent. paitent will be asked questions on their experiance and symptoms of disorder to help clinician better understand individual mental health
how are clinical interviews used in psychology (4marks)
interview is conducted face to face between clinician and paitent, where clinician will ask paitent questions in their disorder and symptoms to better understand their mental health.
open questions allow paitent to fully expand on their mental health disorder and the symptoms they are experiancing.
e.g a schizophrenic will describe to clinician the symptoms they are experiancing such as hearning voices and what they are saying and what gender these voices where.
this yeilds qualative data.
clinician will also asked closed questions wich yeild quantative data for paitent to respond to - e.g do you hear voices yes/no
unstructered interviews are where the clinican only has a vague plan of what they want to discuss with paitent. most of clinicians questions are from paitens response from clincians original queations.
this means all questions for each paitent will be different
unstructured interview is where clinicans ask the same questions to all paitents in the same order
what is a strength of interviews
clinical interviews are conducted face to face meaning the paitent and clinican build a rappor. this allows clincian to fully explain questions and means paitent is more likely to divulage information on their clinical disorder as they trust clinician
how does rappor support clinical interviews
t/f it increases the validity of the data on mental health and the hypothesis of the clinician
what is anouther strength of clinical interviews
qualitive data is provided during the interviewer. this data is indepth and detailed and so then can provide clincian with a large inderstanding of individuals mental health disorder
how does this qualative data support clinical interviews
t/f clinican can gain an indepth understanding of paitents mental health disorder increasing the validity
what is a weakness of interviews
reliablity and repliaction
during unstructured interviews paitentents responses determine the questions asked by clinicnas
what does the unstrcutured interview oppose
t/f every interview between paitent and clinician is different thus reducing the reliablity as it cannot be repeated to establish consistant findings
what is anouther weakness of interviews
reaserarch effect- as the clinican is present with paitent. this could impact paitents response as they male feel intimated by clinicians precense and so alter their response
how can this researcher effect impact the interview
t/f and increase in social desirability bias decreasing reliability of the data
