You have a high priority assignment to be doing right now. Another customer, frustrated, approaches you. What are a couple things you should do.

A

1) Empathize with them “I understand how frustrating it can be” and that you cannot help them at the present moment?
2) Document everything down for them so they know they haven’t been ignored and to get a “head start”
3) Repeat issues back. Can I help them meet any of their objectives using a colleague?

A

1) When did it start
2) Who does it affect
3)Have any changes been made (Like updates, hardware upgrades) since the system last worked.

Three examples of times you’ve solved a tech issue in the workplace.

A

LAPTOP VPN troubleshooter breaks DHCP on system
ROUTER IN KITCHEN - Router for staff room was in the kitchen, next to a warehouse.
BENT PINS- Got a new computer and it didn’t work out of the box. (Fans spun up, no display. Checked cables, looked at GPU, tried moving RAM. It was bent pins.)

A

CURIOSITY - Love finding out more and spend a lot of time looking into things that I don’t understand.
EMPATHETIC - Able to understand the frustration of computers not working and how to sympathize with end users.
ABILITY TO PRIORITIZE - Knowing which systems and areas are critical to a business’ infrastructure is key

Lack of experience with apple products - I try to compensate for this through my Comptia A+ certifications

LETTING GO OF SUBJECTS I DON’T UNDERSTAND
I have a hard time letting go of something I don’t understand - Always wanting to know more, I don’t enjoy putting something down before I understand it fully.

TOO CRITICAL
I can be too critical of myself - Even if something is outside my area of expertise I will never mark my provided service as “perfect” because there will always be room to improve.

A

I have a strong passion for IT and greatly respect that [company] do. I would love nothing more than to be a part of something so innovative.

-Want to work with like-minded people who also love technology and promote it. To support and be supported by them.

-Yearn to see the best and worst of IT and inevitably overcome it while helping others.

-I also wish to put my Comptia certification to good use and help other people see why technology is so great. Even if they start out hating it because it’s broken.
